Welcome to the Hays County Transportation Division of the Resource Protection, Transportation and Planning Department. This division is responsible for maintaining and improving County roads, County road signs and right-of-way areas. The main office is located on Yarrington Road between the cities of Kyle and San Marcos. Equipment and material yards are also located in San Marcos, Kyle, Wimberley and Dripping Springs.
The following criteria must be met for a road to fall under the Department's supervision:

  1. The road is not within a corporate/city boundary
  2. It does not have an FM (Farm-to-Market), RR (Ranch Road), RM (Ranch-to-Market), LP (Loop), IH (Interstate Highway) or SH (State Highway) designation
  3. It is not a privately maintained road
  4. It is in a subdivision where the developer has met County road standards and thereby has given the maintenance rights to the County, which has accepted them

MISSION STATEMENT
We provide the citizens of Hays County a safe, effective and cost-efficient system of County roads.  We address our citizens' concerns for the environment and quality of life in planning and maintaining the road system. We work with other County departments and political subdivisions to provide well- managed and customer-oriented government services.
